Caliber Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 18, 2026
Caliber ("Caliber," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal watch collection app for iPhone and iPad, made by Swapnil Gyani. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. It is written in plain language, because the honest answer is short.
The short version
Caliber keeps your collection on your device. There is no account and no Caliber server. We do not use analytics or tracking, we do not show ads, and we never sell or share your information. Most of the app never touches the internet at all. The only time anything leaves your device is when you choose to share it, when you buy a membership through Apple, or when you turn on a location feature that asks Apple to name a place for you.
What Caliber stores, and where it stays
Everything you put into Caliber is stored on your device: the watches in your collection and their details, photographs and scanned documents, wear history, notes, places, and settings. This data lives in on-device storage and is shared only with the Caliber widget on the same device. It is never sent to us, and we have no way to see it.
What Caliber does not do
- No account. There is no sign-up and no sign-in anywhere in the app.
- No Caliber server, and no network connection of our own.
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising software of any kind.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your personal information with anyone.
Location (off by default, opt-in)
Caliber offers three location settings, and the default is that nothing is captured:
- Add Manually (default). You tag places by hand. No location is read.
- At Each Log. When you log a wear, the app records a single location fix at that moment. This uses "when in use" location access.
- Follow the Day. The app notes places where you spend real time and ties each one to the watch you were wearing. This uses "always" location access.
Any location you capture is stored on your device with the rest of your collection. To turn a set of coordinates into a readable place name, Caliber asks Apple's geocoding service, which means those coordinates are sent to Apple for that one lookup. Apple's handling of that request is governed by Apple's own privacy policy. You can change or turn off location access at any time, in the app's Settings or in the iOS Settings app.
Photographs and documents
Photos and scanned documents you add are stored on your device at full resolution, kept with the watch they belong to. They are never uploaded to us. They leave your device only if you export or share them yourself.
Notifications (opt-in)
If you turn on reminders, Caliber schedules them locally on your device. There is no push server, and no reminder content is sent anywhere.
Purchases (Caliber Reserve)
Caliber Reserve is an optional membership sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the purchase and handles your payment information. We receive only your membership status from Apple, never your payment card or billing details. Apple's terms and privacy policy govern that transaction.
Information you choose to share
Caliber lets you export your whole collection as a single archive, and lets you share a watch's Collection Record or your Year on the Wrist card as an image. These are created on your device and leave it only when you send them somewhere. Where they go after that is up to you. For your safety, a watch's serial number is kept on your device and in your own export only. It is deliberately left off the shareable Collection Record.
Other companies
The only outside company involved in the app is Apple: through the App Store and membership purchases, through the location and geocoding services described above when you enable them, and through iOS notifications. Caliber includes no third-party analytics, advertising, or software development kits.
Children
Caliber is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app collects no personal information on any server, there is nothing for us to collect from anyone.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete individual watches, photos, documents, and wear entries inside the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored. Because your collection lives only on your device, we cannot access it, retrieve it, or delete it for you.
Your privacy rights
Because your collection stays on your device and we run no server that collects it, we do not hold personal information about you to look up, correct, delete, or sell. For the limited data Apple processes on our behalf, meaning your membership purchase and location lookups when you enable them, please see Apple's privacy policy.
- California residents (CCPA and CPRA): We do not sell or share your personal information, and we have not done so.
- EEA and UK residents (GDPR and UK GDPR): Because we do not collect or process your personal data on our own systems, we do not act as a controller of the collection you keep in the app. Data Apple processes for purchases and geocoding is subject to Apple's role and its policy.
Security
Your collection is protected by your device's own security, including your passcode and Apple's on-device encryption. Keeping your device and iOS up to date is the best protection for the data Caliber stores.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change ships. For example, if a future version adds optional iCloud sync, this policy will describe it before that feature is available.
